Back pain and headaches are 2 of the biggest complaints in
the adult population and our patients tell us that they respond well to Osteopathy. There are many
causative factors some of which can be found in posture, or an event
that affected posture, others that are rooted in stress and the
bodies’ inability to cope with it.
Osteopathy can treat a wide range of complaints be they acute or
chronic. Pain in many of its manifestations can be looked at. Often
Osteopaths see cases where the patient is presenting with pain of an
undiagnosed origin, which may have responded to drug therapy but has
not cured it. There is nothing to remove or repair or replace
surgically. |

Functional pain states (where there is no gross disturbance to
structure, i.e. no damage observable) is a scenario Osteopaths face
daily and many of the cases can be understood via the application of
Neurophysiology and Osteopathic principles. The Osteopath is often the
last ‘port of call’ for patients who have exhausted their medical
options.
Osteopathy is a science of cause, it is crucial to understand the cause
of a problem if it is to fully resolve. However, the cause may be in
lifestyle or work (stress), so it is the Osteopaths job to help the body
adapt and cope with the stress or causative factors as much as possible.
It may be that once beneficial change has happened, the odd top up
treatment may be needed to keep the changes working.
Advice on exercise and mobility may be coupled with treatment to ensure
long-term benefit. |
